But many people have good hearts and generous dispositions and enjoy giving all the year through. One extremely worthwhile charity located in the Turks and Caicos is Potcake Place. Potcake Place helps with adoptions and gladly accepts generous donations from sponsors.

So what is a potcake, you might ask?

A potcake is an adorable, but homeless puppy or dog that needs shelter. These dogs roam the Islands and are often found on lonely beaches, in locals’ backyards and even on construction sites. These animals are usually friendly, smart and loyal and they need a good home. The name potcake is derived from the practice of locals from the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands feeding the caked remains of their cooking pots to these starving dogs. These
dogs are of an unknown breed…..most likely, a mixture of labs, retrievers and german shepards. They grow to about 40-55lbs, are gentle and caring and need a good home and to be cared for.
Potcake Place has successfully adopted out potcakes to people in North America and all over the world. These kind souls often take the animals into their own homes, as a foster situation, and make certain that the animals are socialized and ready to be accepted into a loving and caring family. Without the services of this wonderful charity, each dog runs the risk of starving, being run over, intentionally poisoned, dying of heart worm or of being euthanized.  Please help and save these beautiful creatures, if you are able.

around, you can fill out the paperwork, get an approval, and take one or two of these adorable pups home with you. Potcake Place will provide their vaccinations, wormers and other treatments, and arrange health certificates for travel. If an adoption moves forward, they will help book the pup on the plane, and meet the families at the airport with their new pup.
