Eco seaswim racing event

It’s summer and it’s time for some fun in the sun! Most people know the Turks and Caicos as a relaxing haven of sunshine, swaying palm trees, white sandy beaches and sparkling turquoise waters. Well, that would be enough, but that isn’t all we’ve got down here! We’ve also got a lively culture and we have exciting events for those that wish to take part in something fun, lively and exhilarating! Should you be vacationing down here this July, be sure and check out the “Race for the Conch” Eco Seaswim Event! Now in it’s 5th year, this annual event raises money and awareness for local charities, such as Provo Children’s Home and the TCR Reef Fund. Provo Children’s Home is dedicated to providing a safe and nurturing shelter for needy kids who live on the Islands and the TCR Reef Fund is dedicated to preserving and protecting the delicate marine ecosystem of the Turks and Caicos. Both charities are worthwhile endeavors, and they could benefit from having your support at the Seaswim!

This year the Eco Seaswim Event will take place on July 5, 2014. Participants can compete in various divisions; there is a 2.4 mile (Ironman) race, a 1 mile race and a 1/2 mile race. There are also women’s divisions and a division for the wee ones (a children’s division). There is even a brand new 1/2 mile stand-up paddle boarding race for those that are feeling adventurous!

On race day, once that conch shell is blown, all swimmers from Europe, America, Canada, Asia, Africa and Australia become one as they rush into the water and start the competition, all hoping to earn their best time yet, and all enjoying swimming together to support several worthy causes. The warm and sparkling turquoise waters, the squawks of the seagulls and the cheers from the crowds on the beach all add to the magic of the moment, as each swimmer races for the chance to win a beautifully-hand crafted conch trophy. In addition to the highly-coveted trophy, all participants young and old, fast and slow, will earn a medal, a T-shirt and a tote bag, so that each can remember being a part of such an awesome and unique event!

Indeed, this event has been called, “One of the World’s Most Gorgeous Swim Races” by the Daily News of Open Water Swimming and it’s a fantastic way to further enjoy your time down here in the sublime Turks & Caicos. If you don’t wish to compete, you are certainly invited to show your support for all swimmers, competitive racers and paddle boarders from across the globe! Either way, attending this event is sure to create long-lasting memories that you will not soon likely forget.
